The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is a feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience that can be used to improve services. The FFT asks if people would recommend the services they have used and offers a range of responses. It also provides a free text section so that patients can make detailed comments about specific areas of the service they have used.
FFT does not provide results that can be used to directly compare practices because the flexibilities in collection methodologies and variations in populations in different areas mean that it will not be possible to compare like with like. There are other mechanisms for that, such as the National GP Patient Survey and ratings and comments on each practice’s page on NHS Choices.
Practices must publish their own results locally and NHS England will publish the results every month. The results will also be published on the NHS Choices website.
